This week was our last one in this beautiful country and has been quite “light” compared to the first ones, for 2 reasons: we were really tired (for those who think we are on holiday, no we are not!) and the weather was not very good. Anyway, here are the places we enjoyed most:
Northlands
Mahinepua Peninsula:
We walked there on a very scenic track which gives a good insight of what the Northland region is.
North Taranaki
Whitecliffs Walkway:
7km loop track starting headland and looping back along the beach, at the foot of the cliffs. There’s NO “dry sand” at all on this beach, it’s accessible only at low tide. We’ve been lucky to arrive at the perfect time!
Wellington
Town:
That was our arrival town on the North Island. This town is considered by some as the coolest in the World… we liked it, but not THAT much!
Punakaiki Rocks
We stopped to this very popular site on the West Coast, as it was on our way. We heard that it’s quite spectacular during high tide… we missed the “show” but we saw the funny looking rocks! We also added a new bird to our collection, the Weka!
Queenstow and around
After Milford Sound, we went to Queenstown, mainly because Wiola needed a hairdresser… and also to buy warm clothes! We didn’t like the atmosphere in the town itself, as it’s crowded with tourists, restaurants, tour agencies, hotels… a bit like Ko Tao! However, the scenery is fantastic around Queenstown.
Drive between Queenstown and Glenorchy, along the Lake Wakatipu:
Again, in this post we’ll be going through the places we preferred, not everything, and there’s going to be more photos than texts. Also, we would like to emphasize the fact that 100% of the photos on the blog show naturally beautiful places/people/animals/…, none of them has been retouched with any software!

Last day in Bali and journey to NZ
Thanks to the travel desk we booked the bus tickets from, we arrived VERY early at the airport, so we had many spare hours. After the accident which occured with one of our backpacks, damaged in Malaysia, we had to find an Air Asia counter to get some compensation. Nicolas went for it, thinking it would take 5 minutes… well, it took 2 hours! He went absolutely in every corner of the airport, on his own or with some security guys, and finally came back… without any compensation!
After eating a very expensive dinner (it’s impossible to find cheap food at Denpasar airport, even a simple sandwich…), we boarded our plane to Sydney, where we arrived the next morning.
