MYANMAR – WEEK 3

Monday 18th January

This morning we hired a canoe and paddled up to the Shwe Myitzu pagoda which, standing on an island, seems to be floating on the surface of the lake. It was a good time but Wiola, high-level athlete, was tired after 1 hour… ! Until 11am, it was so misty that we couldn’t see much and were really feeling alone in the middle of nowhere.

MYANMAR- WEEK 2

Monday 11th January

We went to see the Golden Rock in Kyaiktyo, which is a 4h bus journey away from Hpa-an.

This is impressive, as we thought it would be, but this day we saw for the first time how this country is and will be dealing with tourists. We had to pay K5000/person for the journey between the base village and the rock, and also a K6000/person as “cultural fee”… for foreigners only. That hasn’t been a cheap day, but going to Myanmar without stopping at the Golden Rock is a bit like not going to see the Big Ben when visiting London for the first time…
